Alberto Apostoli Speaks to the SSA Audience on the Urgency of Climate Action.

Dear members and partners,

While there is no room for complacency when it comes to the ongoing pandemic, there are reasons to be optimistic about the future. Among these are the opportunities we have to focus on sustainability in a post-COVID-19 wellness industry, which has been transformed in the past 18 months or so.

While the pandemic has undoubtedly dominated the news headlines recently, there has been another topic which is causing increasing alarm. There is now no doubt that climate change is happening at an increasing rate. The extreme weather patterns, flooding and forest fires are a dramatic reminder of this. Each person on earth now bears a personal responsibility for protecting the environment. A responsibility which can no longer be ignored.

The thing is, we do have all the resources to face this problem. What we need to accept is that it should be impossible to imagine a wealthy and healthy world – without the acknowledgement that Mother Earth is currently suffering.

Sustainability is wellness for the planet. As wellness is at the heart of the spa industry, we can take our place on the front line of sustainability. The only way we can guarantee a great future for our sector is if we will put sustainability at the heart of our projects and work.

Why? Because the body, mind and soul can only truly be balanced in a sustainable, healthy world.

This follows our increasing concern from us as an association on the issues of climate change. The last few months our concerns have been raised by friends and colleagues around the world in Canada Greece, Turkey, North Africa, North America, Russia, Sicily and Sardinia where they are battling raging wild fires due to enduring heat waves.

Although we send wishes and thoughts of support it is crucial that we take fast and practical action in our day to day lives and businesses.
